The UK government has added 11 further countries to its official warning register regarding the threats of toxic alcohol toxicity from tainted alcoholic drinks.

The expanded warning covers Bangladesh, India, Iran, Jordan, Libya, Malawi, Malaysia, Morocco, Nepal, Papua New Guinea, and Rwanda due to what officials describe as "a worldwide rise in the number of reported cases" of industrial alcohol poisoning.

Only a few weeks ago, authorities had already included Ecuador, Japan, Kenya, Mexico, Nigeria, Peru, Russia, and Uganda to the current roster, in response to a number of serious cases including the fatal death of six visitors in Laos in 2024.

Tourists are being advised that even minimal doses of toxic alcohol can cause permanent eye damage or fatality within twelve to forty-eight hrs.
